Alex Dowsett tries the hour record this evening at 22h GMT, at the velodrome of Aguascalientes in Mexico.

He broadcasts the event live on his YouTube channel, while BBC iPlayer also broadcasts the event.

Dowsett is looking to beat the 2019 distance of 55.089 km from world record holder Victor Campenaerts. The 33-year-old is trying to break the record at the same velodrome Campenaerts used for his record in 2019, suggesting his performance will benefit from an elevation of 1,900 meters above sea level.

The Briton had previously set the hour record in May 2015 in Manchester with a distance of 52.937 km, before Bradley Wiggins beat him a month later. Dowsett has not taken up the challenge since, canceling an effort in December 2020 after contracting Covid-19.

Four runners officially attempted the hour record from the Campenaerts record distance in 2019, all unsuccessful in their efforts.

Dan Bigham’s 54.723 km distance is currently the UK record, however, it is not officially recognized by the UCI, as the organization’s rules require an athlete to participate in his anti-doping system, including a passport. biological.

Either way, Bigham’s distance is also another record Dowsett is looking to break tonight.

Dowsett ran the event independently of his Israel Start-Up Nation team, as he attempted the Hour Record to raise awareness about his charity Little Bleeders, as well as the work of the Haemophilia Society.

As a result, he bought his own equipment for the attempt. This includes a Factor Hanzo time trial bike (track version), Aerocoach Aten chainring and a custom Vorteq suit.
