Dinner to donate for Special Olympics

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Indiana Special Olympics Chapter will host a “Dine to Donate” fundraiser from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14 at Leo’s Market and Eatery, 2212 W. Main St.

Ten percent of the restaurant’s proceeds will go to the organization, which offers sports training and competitions throughout the year for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Gift for Veterans at Sugar Creek Library

NEW PALESTINE – Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans and the Brandywine Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library on July 21 to present a ‘welcome home’ gift to veterans of the American Revolution. Vietnamese era.

The donation consists of an archival-quality book entitled “A Time to Honor” and a documentary DVD entitled “The Journey Home”. To fund the project, Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans also partnered with the Lilly Endowment and the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.

The gift will be available at the library house from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wickard receives Shorthorn Show scholarship

LOUISVILLE – At the 2021 National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference Awards Ceremony in Louisville, Ky., Nine scholarships were awarded to several deserving juniors. Local competitor Paige Wickard received the Lyle and Katharyn DeWitt Memorial Scholarship.

The $ 1,500 Lyle and Katharyn DeWitt Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Shorthorn Foundation and awarded to high school or first year students based on involvement, grades, need and participation in other activities .

Paige Wickard is the daughter of David and Leslie Wickard. Paige is originally from Wilkinson, Indiana and is a nursing student at Anderson University.

Holcomb to speak at Greenfield Chamber meeting

GREENFIELD – Governor Eric Holcomb will be a guest speaker at the next August meeting of the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce. The governor will address the group about his agenda for the future of Indiana during his second term.

The meeting will be held at the Mt Vernon Community School Corporation Administrative Service Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 3.
